Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year!
Dear Parents,
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome your child to another great year at Katimavik E.S. This year will be a busy and exciting year. I look forward to working closely with you and your child in order to ensure that he/she reaches his/her full academic potential and has an overall enjoyable year.
Research shows that there is a direct correlation between effective parent-teacher communication and a child's academic success at school, so I have hence set up this website to keep you informed and to give you a glimpse of what is going on in our classroom. In this website you will find: your child's schedule (if he/she is in EF5A), weekly homework postings, electronic postings of rubrics, projects, and assignments (where applicable), monthly newsletters, and my contact information.
Although this website is meant to act as a channel of communication, it is not our only means of communication. Your child will still be responsible to record his/her homework and test dates in his/her agenda and to get your signature indicating that you have seen their latest quizzes/ tests and projects.
Just to give you a little background information about myself; I am actually a former student at Katimavik, and aside from having spent a substantial amount of time in France, like your child, I have also been part of the Early Immersion Program in Ontario. Given that the study of languages has always been a passion for me (I speak roughly 7 of them), I have not only pursued a BA in Linguistics, but I have also recently completed my MEd in Second Language Education. In addition I have Special Education qualifications, a Teaching French as a Second Language qualification for Ontario, and I am qualified to teach everything from JK to grade 10.
Being aware that not all of the parents are French-speakers, I have opted to design this website and many of the rubrics that we will be following during the course of the year in English so that I may keep all parents as informed and up-to-date as possible.
Overall, I am looking forward to a great second year of working at Katimavik and to having a fun, but educational year with your child.
